This rich, tangy dip is packed with all of the flavors of your favorite candy bar. Serve Snickers dip at your next party with pretzels, fruit, or graham crackers for a fun and easy dessert.
Do you ever eat something at a party and know that you immediately need to make it at home?
That’s what happened with this Snickers dip. I tried some at a Halloween party back in October and knew I had to come up with my own recipe for it right away.
If you’re looking for a super easy dessert to take to your office party or serve for game day, this is the one. It comes together in about 10 minutes and is amazing when served with salty pretzels or tart apple slices.
WHAT IS SNICKERS DIP?
If you love dessert dips like cream cheese fruit dip and Nutella fruit dip, I know you’re gonna love this Snickers dip. Especially if you already love Snickers candy bars.
Snickers bars are known for their combo of nougat, caramel, peanuts, and chocolate, so those are the flavors we’ll use in this dip.
Snickers dip combines tangy cream cheese, creamy peanut butter, caramel-y brown sugar, and chopped Snickers bars. It’s sweet, creamy, easy to make, and impossible to stop eating.
This is one of those dips that you can put out at the beginning of the party along with your appetizers or save it for the end and set it out with the desserts. Or let your friends snack on it throughout the night!
Really, there’s no wrong time for Snickers dip.
HOW TO MAKE SNICKERS DIP
Dessert dips are one of my favorite things to make for parties and game-day gatherings because they are ridiculously easy. I can throw them together in no time, let them chill in the refrigerator, and then pull them out when guests start to arrive.
They’re one of the ultimate make-ahead party recipes.
Ingredients you’ll need
Most of this recipe is made up of pantry staples. You will need:
- 8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
- ½ cup lightly packed brown sugar
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- ½ cup creamy peanut butter
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- pinch of sea salt
- 8 ounces Cool Whip, thawed
- 6 full-size Snickers candy bars, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons caramel sauce
If you’re out of brown sugar, don’t rush off to the store. Try making a simple brown sugar substitute. I also have some tips on softening brown sugar if yours hardened in the pantry.
Similarly, don’t panic if you are also out of powdered sugar. Learn how to make powdered sugar and save yourself a trip to the grocery store.
You can use any caramel sauce you like for topping this dip. If you happen to have a jar of my homemade salted caramel sauce in the fridge, that’s my personal favorite to use.
Making this recipe
Grab a large mixing bowl and an electric hand mixer. Beat the cream cheese for about 3 minutes on medium speed – you want it super smooth.
Add the sugars, peanut butter, vanilla, and salt. Beat the mixture for another 3 minutes.
Now switch to a rubber spatula and fold in the Cool Whip until no streaks remain. Fold about ⅔ of the chopped Snickers bars into the dip.
Scoop the mixture into a serving dish. Top it with the reserved Snickers bar pieces and the caramel sauce, then cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours before serving. (Waiting is the hardest part!)
SERVING SUGGESTIONS
I really love serving Snickers dip with salty pretzels. Pretzel Thins are especially good for dipping! I think the saltiness with the sweet dip is *chef’s kiss* – so good!
You can also channel my Snickers caramel apple salad and serve this dip with sliced apples. I always go with a slightly tart, crisp apple, such as golden delicious.
Graham crackers and vanilla wafer cookies are also great options! This would be a fun way to highlight homemade graham crackers, too.
Set out a little of everything and let your guests have fun deciding what their favorite combo is.
FAQS
What’s the best kind of peanut butter to use in this recipe?
You want to use creamy peanut butter in this recipe. If you want to use a natural peanut butter, look for a no-stir natural peanut butter such as Jif or Skippy.
Avoid natural peanut butter that is made from just ground peanuts, such as the type ground right in the store at Whole Foods. It isn’t smooth enough and doesn’t mix as well into recipes like this one.
How long will this dip keep?
Store Snickers dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. If you don’t plan to serve it within the first day, wait to garnish it with the extra chopped candy bars and caramel sauce until just before serving.
Can you freeze Snickers dip?
I don’t recommend freezing Snickers dip if you plan to serve it to guests after freezing. This is because cream cheese can separate after freezing and thawing.
The dip would still taste great, but the texture might not be as smooth after freezing. So I suggest making it a day or two ahead of time for guests and keeping it in the refrigerator.
If you have leftover dip and want to freeze it just to enjoy for yourself later, feel free! Freeze in an airtight container for up to a month and thaw overnight in the refrigerator.
As I mentioned, the dip might not be as smooth after thawing, but it will still taste good.
Do you have to have a mixer to make this Snickers dip?
You want your Snickers dip to be super duper creamy and smooth, so using a mixer is the best and easiest way to make it.
You can make it by hand; just keep in mind that it’ll take a lot of mixing with a wooden spoon to get it as smooth as it needs to be, so be prepared for a good arm workout.
