We’re barely a week into December and I’m already tired.

I feel like I can’t be the only one, and I’m sure the other parents out there can really agree.

December is so much fun but it’s also so exhausting. There are only a few short years when you can really bring the Christmas magic alive for your kids, and it’s easy to put so much effort into it that you just want to sleep for the entire month of January once the new year hits.

So right now I’m all about easy holiday treats that Elle can help me make. I want to make the season magical for her but also know my limits this year.

Recipes like spritz cookies (which practically decorate themselves), peanut butter blossoms, popcorn balls, and these peppermint brownies are all simple but festive treats that she loves to help make.

We love the time together and we get some delicious sweets that we can share with family, friends, and each other.

You know I absolutely adore the combination of peanut butter and chocolate, from my peanut butter cup cookies to peanut butter cup eclair cake. 

Nutty, chocolatey, and just slightly salty, peanut butter and chocolate hits all my favorite flavor notes.

We’ve officially entered one of the seasons when there is always candy in the house.

With a school-aged kiddo, Halloween is one of the times of year when she comes home with candy for what feels like a week straight. And that’s without trick-or-treating!

I don’t mind having candy in the house, but at some point it stops feeling special and we all sort of forget about it. Which means that we still have pieces of Halloween candy left over by the time Valentine’s Day rolls around and we’re doing it all over again.

So I like to try to get ahead of things and line up a couple of recipes I can make that use up leftover Halloween candy. We still get to enjoy the candy, but in a way that leaves less of it sitting around for 4 months.

This year, I’m crossing my fingers for some extra Snickers bars so I can whip up a batch of these Snickers brownies!

I know that summer desserts are usually all about the fruit.

And like, that makes total sense. Seasonal eating and all.

I’m getting pumpkin hate mail.

Yes, you read that correctly. Not like real hate mail (well, I get some of that too,) but emails specifically targeting the “excessive amount of pumpkin recipes” that I’ve posted in the past few weeks.

Sure, I’ve already posted pumpkin creme brulee, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin chocolate chip bread and now these pumpkin blondies, but guys, it’s fall and pumpkin is what I do.

And I’m not one bit sorry about it.

However, if you’re a pumpkin hater as well, I’m just here to tell you that I have plenty of non-pumpkin recipes coming your way in the coming months, so hang tight!

Last week I got a text from my friend Erin asking if I’d like to join her for a weight training class.

In true Jamie fashion, I proceeded to ask her no less than 152 questions about the class. Everything from the location and class size, down to the overall temperature of said class, was covered before I agreed to join her.

You see, I’m not much into group exercise. I think that ship sailed when I was in high school and tried to take a step aerobics class at a local gym.

Let’s just say I missed the step, causing my little step tower to crumble under my feet and I fell straight on my butt.

As of last week, my exercise routine consisted of two days of Pilates and very sporadic rides on my Peloton bike.

After attending this weight training class, I could barely walk the two days following because my butt was so sore.
Like, it was so bad I popped a couple of Advil TWICE in one day, and I am not a medicine taker.

But I totally made it through the entire class and even signed up for the whole month of June. I’ll keep you posted.

It might not be January, but I’m always up for trying a new routine. Who knows, another class like that and I may replace my high school trauma with a whole new nightmare.

In the meantime, I’ll be over here trying not to eat the calories I burned in Tiramisu Brownies, but trust, I’ll be tempted.

Tiramisu is up there with my favorite desserts. It’s not quite cheesecake level, but since it’s got that pudding-y texture, with lots of coffee flavor, you know I’m a fan.

You might be wondering if combining brownie batter and lady fingers works. It SO works, guys.

Add in that delectable Tiramisu creamy, coffee goodness, and these brownies are something truly special.
